Project Lifesaver once again helps save a life.

Project Lifesaver continues to help the community this time in the state of Virginia. This past Monday April 6, 2026, a missing young child returned home unharmed, thanks to the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the Project Lifesaver program.
With April marking Autism Acceptance Month, a new story reaches us this time from Hanover County, Virginia. It is another victory for the non-profit organization Project Lifesaver. On April 6, 2026, an eight-year-old boy with nonverbal autism wandered away from his home. "We didn't really know what else to do," stated Sharon Bunger, the grandmother of the rescued boy.
"Time is of the essence,"said Deputy Joel Cumber of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. For his protection, the eight-year-old boy was enrolled in Project Lifesaver and was found within 23 minutes. "Typically, children with autism are attracted to water," noted Deputy Joel Cumber of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. By narrowing the search and tracking the boy's transmitter, they found him in a swampy area two miles from his grandparents' home. Project Lifesaver is a tool that helps both families and government agencies—such as fire and police departments—across the United States, Canada, and other parts of the world in finding and rescuing missing persons with cognitive conditions, such as Alzheimer's, dementia, Down syndrome, or autism.
Project Lifesaver has helped over 4,000 families in various parts of the world, bringing peace and joy to homes. It would be great if more people and partners could be part of this great project and share Project Lifesaver. Whether this is shared on social media, sponsored walks, or through personal testament. Let's save our children in need with these cognitive conditions, continuing to share this information widely, and promote Project Lifesaver through multiple channels. We need to educate the community not only during the month of April, but throughout the entire year. Through these efforts this is already happening: so far 4,586 people have been rescued and returned home safe and sound to their families. This project has saved children and adults. Each story of success and return could not have been possible without Project Lifesaver and people like you. If you would like more information, go to www.projectlifesaver.org/about-us/where-we-are/ or by calling 1-877-580-LIFE (5433).

From Dream to Discipline: The Rise of a Sports Physical Therapy Pioneer

From the warmth of the "Island of Enchantment" Puerto Rico we are honored today to feature an interview with José Cruz, owner and Physical Therapist at Athlete Basics and Specifics by JC. The physiologist José Cruz shares with us the story of his beginnings his valleys and mountains as well as his personal and professional experiences in opening his new clinic, Athlete Basics and Specifics, found in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. José Cruz recounts that, from childhood, he was guided by his mother to pursue sports to keep himself motivated and active. "I had him involved in baseball from a young age," Irma Lopez tells us. He tells us that, at an early age, his curiosity about science and the human body was sparked; later, following track and field practice, a university classmate invited him to visit the Physical Therapy Department, thereby awakening his true passion. He looked to do more than simply offer standard treatments like steam therapy or ultrasound; he wanted to learn how to use the human body itself to provide unique therapeutic benefits such as fostering a better lifestyle and promoting longevity among other things.

"To truly understand the human body, it was necessary to study and master its biomechanics,” said Jose Cruz. This knowledge allowed him to treat everyone from children, adolescents, adults, the elderly, and athletes since the human body has specific characteristics and unique elements that vary according to our individual physical capabilities.
With a career spanning nearly thirty years, José Cruz notes that there have certainly been challenging moments along the way. "One of the most challenging elements has been breaking through health paradigms that have existed for years specifically, educating people on the true nature of health and the positive potential of the human body. I strive to act as a 'health facilitator,' teaching people that we are, fundamentally, the sum of what we eat, how we move, how we hydrate, and how we rest. He emphasizes these four elements as foundational pillars of functional health. "Helping to restore and promote health is the most gratifying aspect of my daily life." Says, Jose Cruz.

Speaking about his company and clinic, Athlete Basics and Specifics, "It has taken a great deal of effort and sacrifice for José Cruz to reach where he is today opening his therapy and sports clinic," Irma López tells us. The CEO shares with us the specific needs and market he found within the field of physical therapy needs and niches that his practice successfully addresses today. Jose Cruz shares that he found a need across various populations; amidst the many changes taking place in the world of sports, he saw an opportunity to offer his services. He recognized that the prevalence of practices and games involving repetitive movements often performed without the body being adequately prepared leads to injuries. This was one of the keys needs he named during the first stages of his clinic, Athlete Basics and Specifics. He also found a specific need within the elderly population specifically among those suffering from Sarcopenia, a condition characterized by the loss of muscle mass.

Sharing with us the greatest lesson he has learned while directing a clinic dedicated to the treatment and recovery of athletes and the public, he highlights the importance of learning to delegate, sharing his knowledge with other members of his clinic, and developing his team. He tells us that having his wife's help is one of the most important lessons and one of the most vital components of his business, as she is the one who coordinates scheduling planning and manages the clinic's administration. One of the most significant aspects and lessons is to "view your clients as if they were your parents, children, or family members." Says, Jose Cruz.

Jose Cruz, inspiring new and future generations of physical therapists, shares with us that this is a spectacular field one where the focus must be objectively developing a conceptual approach tailored to each specific case and need. "There are no shortcuts," Jose Cruz tells us. He urges them to have passion, to prepare themselves, to give their absolute best, and, more than anything else, to give thanks to God.

The Pink Tax: Small Differences, Big Impact

Pink Tax in the United States has created a gender-based price imbalance dating back to the 1980s. In this context, pink has been used as a trend to distinguish products intended for women a practice that has persisted for years, driving up prices. Products serving the exact same purpose yet differing in price with markups added simply due to distinct packaging, scents, or imagery, beg the question: is this all merely a marketing strategy? In the United States, there are currently no federal laws prohibiting brands from setting higher prices for products marketed to women compared to those marketed to men. However, California and New York have enacted laws that protect consumers from gender-based discrimination when buying these types of products.

Research Before Buying:
Given that products such as shampoo and razors are priced 48 and 11 percent higher, respectively, for women compared to their male equivalents, we have concluded that we must investigate and seek out alternatives.
According to Nitasha Mehta, Marketing Director at the online retailer Boxed: "Generally, we don't compare prices when buying our own products." Researching and finding alternatives is a valid strategy; companies such as Harrys.com, shopflamingo.com, and Mybillie.com offer excellent prices along with great discounts and high-quality products that could help our budget.

Buy Generic Brands:
Why buy generic brands? Now that we know the Pink Tax is not a myth, let's put this into practice: if you take the time to compare the label of a product from your favorite brand against that of a generic brand at your local supermarket or store, you will notice that the ingredients in both are identical or very similar. Buying generic brands will be easier on your wallet, thereby stretching your budget and ensuring you don't fall victim to the Pink Tax, which, ultimately, amounts to markup and profits for large companies driven by packaging, imagery, and effective marketing.
Share It Make It Viral:
Keeping this to ourselves and not speaking up about what is happening won't do anyone any favors, neither us nor our wallets. If you come across a place where prices are exorbitant, say something: ask the cashiers or store managers; write a letter to the company you’ve been loyal to for years, explaining that due to their pricing, which includes the "pink tax" you are no longer willing to shop there; or simply use your social media channels to tag those companies in your posts, stories, and Reels, letting them know that inflating prices based solely on gender differences is unacceptable and could cost them customers.
In conclusion: take your time, do your homework, visit different stores, look for—or save—any discounts you find online, sign up for websites to become a member, and opt for home delivery services. Sometimes these companies offer free shipping if you buy a certain amount of product upfront or monthly. Compare your options to protect your wallet and remember let's shop intelligently not based on color. Say no to the Pink Tax. For more information about the Pink Tax, you can visit www.gao.gov.
